Online-Counselling-DemoWhy Choose Counselling?

People often come to counselling when they’ve reached a point of feeling stuck. Early on in life, we all develop beliefs about the world, and about ourselves and others. We then adopt strategies based on these beliefs to help us navigate the world and maintain the bonds with the people we depend on to keep us safe and survive in the world.

These strategies are perfectly crafted to help us survive while dependent on others. Problems arise however, when we carry these strategies – often based on mistaken beliefs about the world, self, and other – into our adult relationships, when we find they fail to deliver like they used to. Through examining our strategies and underlying beliefs, we have the opportunity to correct old mistaken beliefs and open to new possibilities in our relationships and in our world.

My Approach

My area of focus is working with people who suffer from chronic pain, but I also see clients for depression, anxiety, relationships, transitions, or during any particularly challenging time in life. Counselling can provide the support you need as you navigate your way through these experiences. Whatever has brought you to counselling, you can expect a caring and compassionate heart, and a safe-non-judgmental space in a session with me. I will work with you to set goals, offer experiential exercises, and offer support as you work toward positive change.

As a Transpersonal Counsellor, I believe in a holistic approach to well-being that integrates the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our being. My approach includes the belief that we are all connected and that there is a higher power greater than ourselves ever-present in our lives.

Therapies I Draw On

Some therapies I draw on include:

Bowen Family Systems Theory
: involves considering a person’s dilemma in the context of their family system. Together we will explore the values, stories, patterns and connections of the family system.

Person-centered Therapy
: based on the work of Carl Rogers, person-centered therapy is based on the belief that we all have an innate capacity for self-understanding.

Gestalt: involves focusing on the here-and-now – bringing awareness to the thoughts, feelings, and sensations of the present moment.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
: our language plays a role in shaping our perceptions, thoughts, and actions. We give meaning to the stories of our lives through language. NLP involves employing language as a tool for desired behavioural change.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
: a mindfullness-based therapy that helps to gain greater well-being by overcoming negative thoughts and feelings, and learning to reduce avoidant coping strategies.

My Training

I hold a diploma in Transpersonal Counselling Psychology from Clearmind International Institute (2018), and am a member in good standing with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT). I participate in ongoing continuing education and regular supervision with my counselling supervisor. I have completed the accredited SAN’YAS Anti-Racism Indigenous Cultural Safety Training core training for Mental Health certificate program, and humbly strive toward being a culturally safe and competent therapist for people from all backgrounds.
